Teens Online

I frequently use data from PEW when I write. This organization offers a new page that will be helpful. This page summarizes the present state of adolescent online activity based on PEW’s repeated surveys.

A note near the top of the page says – (Note: This page will be updated whenever new data is available.)

If I understand this correctly, the idea is to offer the page as a location people like me can access from time to time for PEW’s current description of adolescent online activity.

iWeb host options

Apple’s hosting of iWeb sites is going away. I have an old site out there that will end and I will not bother to save any of the content. It was more of an experiment for me.

I think iWeb was a reasonable product and it would have been useful for individuals wanting to maintain a small site (e.g., a classroom teacher). I just don’t think Apple understand the social, open web. Maybe Apple does understands and would prefer that as many Apple-friendlies as possible move in a different direction.

Anyway, for those who own the software and want to continue their site, MacWorld offers some options for hosting the content elsewhere. It is probably important to understand this is a temporary fix. With no one committed to the authoring software, the utility of what you now know how to do will diminish with time. It might be time to accept the inevitable and look for a new tool for your creativity.

P.S. – MacWorld explains how to use DropBox to serve iWeb content

MyTunesPro

If you are an iPad owner and sometimes listen to your iTunes music using this device, allow me to recommend MyTunesHD. I am not certain how this works, but this software improves the sound a great deal. Using your iTunes account through a good stereo system is impressive, but it was the sound from the iPad itself that I found worth the $10 (this is the premium version). Really makes an obvious difference.

iPad in Education

I follow the ReadWriteWeb because I think the blog offers reviews with some depth. Here is a recent post regarding the impact the iPad has had on education. If this topic is of interest, I also recommend some of the links in the earlier part of this article (e.g., reading)  which discuss the impact of the iPad on more specific areas.
