Keeping it cheap

The Huffington Post and several other Internet sites are carrying an article including comments from economists claiming money paid as a reward for advanced teacher degrees offers no advantage in student learning. If we find ways to take all of the incentives out of becoming and remaining a teacher will that benefit students?
