This NY Times article provides both sides of the tech and distraction issue. Not a lot of science, but a reasonable presentation of both sides of the topic.

The Huffington Post and several other Internet sites are carrying an article including comments from economists claiming money paid as a reward for advanced teacher degrees offers no advantage in student learning. If we find ways to take all of the incentives out of becoming and remaining a teacher will that benefit students?

This Scientific American article by Tim Berners-Lee offers some insights into the history of the web, but also what the founder sees as future dangers. His concerns can be mapped to present trends and are worth careful consideration.
